A sad and fatal accident befell JAMES TEALE, the little son of MR. and
MRS. ORRA TEALE, at their home in Lamoni Wednesday of last week. MRS.
TEALE was preparing to wash out some underwear for the children and had
filled a foot tub with a few garments and boiling water. She stepped
out to the well to get some water to cool the water in the tub, leaving
the same standing on the floor. While MRS. TEALE was out, little JAMES
wandered into the room and while at play backed up against the foot tub
and sat down in the boiling water.
His screams brought MRS. TEALE to the room immediately. She drew him
from the tub and hastened to remove his clothes. She found that a small
blister had developed over the small of the back where his clothing was
tightest. A physician was summoned although the burn was not considered
dangerous until just after dinner on Thanksgiving day, when the little
fellow began to vomit. Dr. Horner was hurriedly called and he did
everything possible to relieve the suffering of little JAMES and
preserve his life, but his efforts availed nothing. He continued to
grow worse until 6:30 in the evening when death resulted. He was two
years and twelve days old at the time of his death and was the third
child of MR. and MRS. TEALE.
The funeral was held Friday and the remains buried in the cemetery at
Lamoni. The bereaved parents have the profound sympathy of all.
