Decatur County Journal

April l8, l90l

DANIEL STANLEY was born in Wayne County, Indiana, July 30, l832; died in

east Leon, Iowa, April l3, l90l. He came west in l854 and made a

temporary home with his married sister, MRS. WIMER, in Harrison County,

Missouri. He enlisted in the U.S. Service in l862, and served his

enlistment in Company C, 5th Kansas Cavalry. In l868 he married

SERILDA, a daughter of DANIEL HUFF, at Decatur City, Iowa, and to them

were born three boys and three girls. One son, ALVIN, and one daughter,

DOLLY, have crossed the dark, cold stream.

DAN was last seen on the streets of Leon on Tuesday last; was suddenly

taken by a severe chill, and upon reaching his home was tenderly cared

for, and Dr. Layton called to administer to his necessities. The doctor

did all he could; aided and assisted by the wife, children and friends.

He grew gradually worse till Saturday night at l2 o'clock, when his

spirit took its flight to the world beyond.

While we cannot extol his merits as a devoted Christian, we can

truthfully and knowingly say that he possessed the prominent

characteristics of a good man, and when we add that he was physically a

badly afflicted man, with an infirmity that proved to be beyond the

reach of medical skill and that his education was limited to observation

and experience alone, let us throw the mantle of charity over him and

entertain the hope that all is well with him. Funeral services were

conducted at the house Monday afternoon at l o'clock by Elder Castor.

Interment in Palestine Cemetery.
