Decatur County Journal
February 3, l898
MR. SPRINGER was born in Glenville, N.Y., April 24, l83l. He died at
his late home in Decatur County, Iowa, January 29, l898, aged 66 years,
9 months, 5 days.
His parents were REV. B.O. and ELIZA SPRINGER. With his parents he
moved from Vermont to New Madison, Ohio, and worked on a farm. Thence
he moved to Portland, Indiana, in l849, where he learned and worked in
the cabinet and furniture trade with his brother-in-law, F.N. AVERY.
There he married MISS ELIZABETH MOCK and to them were born six children,
five sons and one daughter, of whom four sons are now living. MRS.
SPRINGER died January 30, l863.
MR. SPRINGER came to Iowa in l865. He spent a short time in
Chillicothe, Mo., engaged in his trade and thence went to Omaha and was
engaged in the U.P.R.R. car works.
February 3, l868, he was married to MRS. SUSAN BROWN, who survives him.
He located on a farm in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa. By his
second marriage, he had born to him three sons and two daughters, all
living. Two years ago he moved to the farm in Decatur Township, where
he spent his closing days of earthly life. He was an invalid the last
seven years of his life but enjoyed a blessed ministry in loving
attention to his wants by wife and children.
It will be seen from this sketch, MR. S. descended from Godly ancestry
and filled a good office in society, rearing a large household and
conducting himself an honorable citizen. While not so pronounced for
Christ in his primal days as desirable and proper, he, towards the close
of life, surrendered himself wholly to God and felt assurance of
acceptance. He was glad to go hence and leave the house of bodily
infirmity to be clothed upon with immortality.
