February 28, l907
JOHN SPILMAN was born at Circleville, Ohio, February l9, l828, died at
the home of his daughter, MRS. S.H. BROWNING, at Westerville, Iowa,
February l3, l907, aged 78 years, ll months and 24 days. He was married
to NANCY JANE FORTUNE, July 29, l847, who preceded him to her home above
on August l5, l905. Seven children were born to this union, of which
three are still living--one boy and two girls to mourn the loss of the
father and mother. They are LOTTIE J. BROWNING, Westerville, Iowa;
GEORGE SPILMAN, Topeka, Kansas; MOLLIE E. HOLLAND, Monroe, Iowa.
JOHN SPILMAN united with the M.E. Church when a boy and remained a
faithful member until God called him away from this world to his reward
in Heaven. But two of the children were present at the funeral; the
brother, GEORGE SPILMAN, was not able to come on account of sickness.
Funeral services were conducted by J.F. Browning. The body was laid to
rest by the side of his faithful companion in the Westerville Cemetery
Friday, February l5, l907.
