EMMA FRANCIS-DUNN SMITH was born October 24, l847 in Onondaga County,
N.Y. and died March l, l902, aged 54 years, 4 months and 5 days. Her
parents moved to Illinois when EMMA was about l year old. She was
married to CYRUS SMITH soon after his three years service in the Army,
November 30, l864. To them were born two sons, ARA J. the first one,
born in l865, is still living. CUBBIE who was born March 3l, l868, died
and went to Heaven at l4 months old and the thought of meeting him there
has always been a means of grace to us.

As the services of Elder J.E. Horn could not be procured at the time of
burial, he preached the funeral sermon April 20, l902 as he was her
favorite preacher. Perhaps no other person had more sympathy for the
sick and afflicted than did Aunt EMMA and she made it manifest that she
was true to her calling by doing all in her power to relieve them, and
there never was a night too cold and dark, or a day too stormy for her
to go when called. But she has gone to her reward and we are left to
mourn but not without hope.
