CHARLES SMITH, son of GEORGE and MARGARET SMITH, was born in Decatur

County, Iowa, July 3, l875, and grew up to a noble young manhood among

us and was regarded as a good young man, respected by all his

acquaintances, but death claimed him for its own. About the lst or 2nd

of March he took cold; pneumonia set in, and although he received the

best of care from doctors and nurses he rapidly declined, suffering

greatly until death came to his relief which occurred March l5th at l

o'clock a.m.

Funeral services at the house on the l6th were attended by a large

company of friends and neighbors who thus manifested their deep sorrow

and sympathy with the parents and friends of deceased. The remains were

interred in the Shy Cemetery.
