EDITH STOUT SMALLWOOD, eldest child of MR. and MRS. JOHN A. STOUT, was

born March l6, l875, in High Point Township, Decatur County, Iowa, and

has always resided here.

On December 30, l903, she was united in marriage to CHARLES A. SMALLWOOD

and to them was born one son, ROY, now fourteen months old. Besides her

husband and little son, she leaves a father, mother, three sisters,

three brothers, and a host of friends who mourn her departure.

She joined the Christian Church in l899 and since has lived a true

devoted Christian life, always ready to do her duty to her neighbors and

friends whenever an opportunity presented. She seemed to realize that

death was near, as at one time during the extreme suffering she was

undergoing, she said the "Lord can heal and save me", showing her faith

and confidence in her Savior. Her sickness was of short duration,

lasting from Tuesday until Sunday morning.

The youth of this dear young wife and mother causes sincere regret on

the part of her friends at their loss, and the most sincere sympathy for

the young husband and his motherless little child. There is great

consolation in knowing that she had "chosen that good part which shall

not be taken away", and will extend a glad welcome to those of her

friends in the land of eternal sunshine if they too, shall follow her

good example.
