HENRY J. SHOTTS died at his home at l44 Cedar Street about 5 a.m. today
of cancer of the stomach. He had been in ill health a long time and his
demise was not unexpected.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Dr. A.R.
Maclan, Pastor of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services
at the residence, after which the Masons, of which order MR. SHOTTS was
a member, will take charge of the body. The interment will be in Hope
Cemetery, with Masonic rites at the graves.
MR. SHOTTS leaves a wife, MRS. ELIZABETH SHOTTS, three sons and two
daughters. One son, KIRBY SHOTTS, resides in this city, as do the
daughters, MISS GERTRUDE SHOTTS and MISS MINNIE SHOTTS.
CHARLES SHOTTS, a son, is here from Omaha. He has been here for two
weeks in attendance upon his father. The third son has not yet been
reached by telegraph, his present location being unknown, but messages
announcing his father's demise have been sent to various points.
A brother of MRS. SHOTTS, ROBERT HAGAN, of Saline, Mo., is here for the
funeral.
MR. SHOTTS has lived in Ottumwa(?) a little more than two years. He was
formerly in the lumber business in Iowa and at one time was in the
banking business in that state. He served as a captain in the Civil
War.
