DAVID SHORT, a citizen of Leon for many years, died last Monday at l0

a.m. and was buried in the Leon Cemetery at 4 p.m. Tuesday, services

being conducted by Rev. Ilsley. His death was the result of aggravated

dysentery.

DAVID P. SHORT was born in Perry County, Ohio, April l9, l823. In

childhood his father's family moved to Harrison County, Indiana, and

thence he moved to Mercer County, Illinois, after he became to mature

years. He came to Decatur County in l869 and to Leon about twenty-four

years ago. In l844 MR. SHORT was married in Harrison County, Indiana,

to MISS SARAH A. BRYLES, who died in Mercer County, Ill., in l858.

About three years later, he was married to MRS. ABIGAIL A. HOWE, who

survives him. Of his family, two daughters remain, MRS. W.A. MORRISON

of Chariton and MRS. BERNETTE MECCHAM of Ottumwa. A brother also lives

in Beaconsfield, Ringgold County, Iowa.
