Subject: OBITUARY - JOSEPH SHEELEY.

November 30, l899

Died, at Vermillion in South Dakota on the l3th day of Nov. l899, after

a brief illness, JOSEPH SHEELEY aged 89 years and l0 months. The

subject of this sketch was born in Germany on the l3th day of January,

l8l0. Came to America in l828, was joined in marriage to MISS CATHARINE

BUSEY in Ohio, to them were born l0 children, of whom three sons and

three daughters are living. He moved to Iowa and settled near Van Wert

in l854. The wife died many years ago, and in l883 he went to South

Dakota and made his home with his children, where he died as above

stated.

The remains were brought to Van Wert and after funeral services,

conducted by Rev. Jas. Blair and the writer, was laid to rest in the Van

Wert Cemetery beside his wife. BRO. SHEELEY was well known to the

writer; he was a member of the U.B. Church for about a half a century

and a very exemplary man. His last words were: "All is well."

"Servant of God well done,

Thy glorious warfare is past."
