GRAND RIVER NEWS:

MISS WINONA SHAFFNER died at her home, after a brief illness of less

than a week, of pneumonia, early last Monday morning. The death of this

estimable young lady seems peculiarly sad. Her father L.D. SHAFFNER

came to this town and engaged in the mercantile business, and died about

six years ago after a brief illness, leaving a widow and three children.

The family continued to live here and there was no change in the firm.

Soon after the father's death, the mother sickened with consumption,

living until last summer when she, too, passed away. WINONA bravely

took the burden as the head of the family and with good judgment, kept

up the home for herself, brother and sister. But she was suddenly

called and the home is broken up.

The funeral was held at the church early Tuesday morning, Rev. Wolever

officiating. Deceased had been a member of the M.E. Church for several

years. Interment occurred at the Burrell Cemetery where her parents

were buried. Deceased was a young lady of blameless character.
