Subject: OBITUARY - JOHN SELLS.

March 23, l899

JOHN SELLS died while sitting in a chair at the home of his son, ANDREW,

about three miles southwest of Leon, last Sunday morning. MR. SELLS had

been badly troubled with heart disease for years and was given to

frequent spells which endangered his life greatly. On last Sunday

morning he had walked to the home of his son, JOHN, a short distance

from the residence of ANDREW, and returned complaining that he was

afraid that he was going to have another bad attack. He seated himself

in a chair, his head dropped forward on his breast, and he was dead

before assistance could be given.

MR. SELLS was born in Probis County, Ohio, April 8, l826, where he

resided until l0 years of age when with his parents, he moved to

Indiana. At the age of 20 he left Indiana and settled at Red Rock,

Iowa. After two years spent here he again moved, this time stopping at

Eddyville where he was married to LUCY TALLEY on May 5, l852. In l857

he moved with his family to Decatur County and has since made this his

home a place standing over 42 years. Nine children were born to this

union, all of whom, with the exception of one which died (can't read

word)at the age of six months, and (can't read word), WYLIE, JOHN and

ANDREW, who (can't read word) and vicinity, died after nearly reaching

maturity.

MR. SELLS conducted a blacksmith shop for many years and also helped to

erect some of the first buildings put up in Leon. MRS. SELLS died in

September, l89l.

The funeral services were conducted by S.L. Cox at Palestine Church,

Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment made in the Church

Cemetery.
