Obituary.

REW - Sylvester REW died at his home on the west side of town on Thursday evening, July 6, 1905, after a severe illness of two months or more. Neuralgia and probably a tumor in the bowels was the cause of death. Only a post mortem examination could have determined the exact cause. His age was 68 years, 9 months and 14 days.

He was born in Chautauqua county, New York, in 1836, married in Pennsylvania in 1856, removed west in 1861, to Wisconsin in 1869, and to Decatur county, Iowa, in 1878. All but four of the twenty-seven years since then the family have lived near Lamoni. From 1892 to 1896 they were in Nebraska, then returned here.

Mr. REW made many friends during his long residence here, and those closely associated with him speak words of esteem and deep regard in his memory. He continued in the faith of the Reorganized Church of Christ, with which he united in Malad, Idaho, in March, 1869.

Mr. and Mrs. REW were the parents of twelve children. One son died in Wisconsin over thirty years ago and another died here in November, 1882. Of the ten who are living, Mrs. Jessie FAUNCE dwells in Chicago, Mrs. Abbie COOPER and Mamie in Bridgeport, Neb., Charles in Des Moines, William in southern Missouri. Osman, Arthur, Peter, Lewis and Roy live in or near Lamoni. All but William, Abbie and Mamie were present at the funeral.

Mrs. REW and family have the sympathy of the people throughout the village and country. Services were held at the residence, and though but a few from town could attend, there was a large gathering of friends from around about, and the procession to the grave in Rose Hill was a long one. Elder H. A. STEBBINS preached the sermon by request of the deceased.
