MARY W. PACE was born in Virginia, October l5, l8l3; at the age of 22, emigrated with her uncle to Alton, Ill.; there was married to JOSEPH MCCREADY; to this union nine children were born. They emigrated from Alton to Boone County, Mo., in l840, and remained there till l863, when they removed to this county, locating on a farm four miles east of Leon, where they remained until the death of her husband, January 4, l88l. Since that time she has made her home with her son, T.B. MCCREADY, going with him to Cainsville, Mo., in l896, and from there to Apache, Okla., Nov. 28, l90l, where she passed away May 29, l902, aged 88 years, 7 months and l4 days.

She was converted at the age of thirteen and joined the M.E. Church, living up to the principles of that body for over seventy-five years. She was always a Bible reader. She was ready to meet death and with a smile said she hoped to go. She was loved by all who knew her. Services were held at the house, Elder Callihan officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Leon Cemetery by the side of her companion.
