“Tilghman Howard Pickering was born Sept. 25, 1902 at Leon.  He received his education in the Leon schools.  In early life he was baptized in the Methodist church.  Throughout his life he suffered intensely but bore it with patience and endurance, which amazed those who knew him.  His life was spent in Leon with the exception of about months when he was in Des Moines.  Wherever he went he made many friends.  He loved music.  It was the great enjoyment of his lfe.  His favorite song was “When Day is Done”.  He passed away at his home in Leon on Jan 1, 1937 at the age of 34 years, 3 months and 6 days.  He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Mrs Ethel Pickering, one brother Louie of Leon, two sisters, Mrs Irene Trisler and Mrs Onita Willey, both of Des Moines.  His father and sister preceded him in death.  Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 3, 1937 with Rev A. V Hard, pastor the Christian Church of Leon officiating.  Interment was in the Leon cemetery.
Card-It is our earnest desire to express our very deep appreciation of the many kindnesses, for the sympathy and help of neighbors and other friends and for the beautiful flora offerings at the time of the illness of our beloved son and brother;
Mrs Ethel Pickering and family.
