“Pickering, Louie S, 79, died at the Decatur County Hospital July 15.  Services were conducted from the Slade funeral home July 18 with the Rev. Mr George Swan officiating.  Burial was in the Leon cemetery”

“Louie S, son of Martin B and Ethie Schenck Pickering was born July 22, 1897 in Leon, Iowa and died July 15, 1977 at the Decatur county Hospital, Leon, Iowa, age 79 years, 11 months and 23 days.  His life was spent in Leon where he grew up and attended school.  On July 21, 1923 he was married to Hilma S Peterson at Keokuk, Iowa.  They managed the A & P Grocery Store in Leon for 11 years and then owned the Coast to Coast Store from 1938 until retirement in 1964.  Louie was a member of the Leon Christian Church and the Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodges in Leon for over 50 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Hilma Oct 14, 1971; 2 sisters Irene Trisler and Hazel Pickering; and brother Howard.  Survivors include one sister, Oneta Willey and husband Howard, Des Moines Iowa; nephews and nieces cousins, other relatives and friends. “
