Ethel (Schenck) Pickering
The Leon Journal Reporter, Leon Iowa, Thur 24 Nov 1955 XXXEthel Pickering, daughter of Tilghman and Mattie Schenck, was born at Decatur, April 13, 1870 and passed away at the Decatur County hospital, November 18, 1955. She was married to Martin Pickering May 20, 1888. To this unioin five children were born. Two have preceded her in death, Hazel in childhood and Howard in 1937. Her husband also preceded her in death, March 1911. Early in life she made her confession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Leon Christian. For many years she made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Louie Pickering. She enjoyed people much and was a member of the Social club and rebcca Lodge. Surviving are her two daughters; Mrs Howard Willey, Des Moines, Mrs Earl Trisler, Des Moines; one son, Louie, Leon; one sister Mrs Maude Young, Kerrville, Texas; seven grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Monday November 21 at 3:30 p.m. Lloyd Bensmiller pastor of the Leon Christian church officiated. Burial in Leon cemetery.Submitted by Pam Shelton-Anderson, 21 Jan 2001
