Pearl Alva Perks

Pearl Alva Perks, son of Uriah Lincoln Perks and Lillian Adel Fogelman Perks, was born April 4, 1899 at Akron, Mo., and died at his home in rural Garden Grove, Iowa, Nov. 13, 1978, age 79 years, 7 months and 9 days.

On June 18, 1921, he was united in marriage to Lona Gammon. To this union three children were born.

Pearl worked for Armour and Company 25 years.

He was preceded in death by Lona; parents; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors are: one daughter, Mary Maurine Bunch and husband Don, Maple Valley, Wash.; two sons, Raymond Keith and wife Faye, Tulsa, Okla.; and Curtis Duane and wife Myrna, six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Letha Manchester, Leon; Beulah Hatfield, Van Wert, Iowa; and Lela Chlopek, West Des Moines, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Pearl's birth name is actually Alva Pearl Perks. The family decided to change his name around since this was the way it was on his Social Security card.

Things my Grandpa told me, by Carla Rae Perks.

Grandpa told me the year before he died that he was born in Cainsville MO.

Pearl and his Uncle Charlie use to let the dogs run wolves. He use to drive cows for 50 cents a month. He worked for the railroad pulling grass out of the rails.

Perks family lived at Long Creek before Grandpa Pearl left home.
