James Perdue The Hand of Death
James Perdue died at this home in High Point township Monday evening, aged 82 years and 5 months.
The deceased was born in Harrison county, Ohio, in 1812, and was the son of Jonathan and Rebecca Perdue. His boyhood days were passed in Guernsey county, Ohio. He learned the carpenter's trade, which occupation he followed for thirty years.
In 1839 he was married to Anna McCune in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, who was born in Harrison county in 1815. Four children remain to mourn his loss - Mrs. Rebecca Smith, Mrs. Martha Konklin, Randolph Perdue, all of this county, and Mrs. Mary Davis, who lives in Michigan.
Mr. Perdue settled in High Point township before the war and was one of the pioneers of the county. He was a man of great industry and rugged honesty and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. As the shadows of old age crept upon him he grew seclusive and during the later years of his life withdrew from the society of his neighbors and lived as a hermit. All his wants were carefully supplied by his son Randolph.
He was buried yesterday afternoon in the Leon cemetery by the Masons, of which fraternity he had long been a member.
