Decatur County Journal

September l, l898

SIDNEY A. PRUYN died at Davis City, August 2l, l898, of appendicitis.

The deceased was born in Black Creek, Contagamie County, Wis., August 5,

l879, making him l9 years of age at his death.

He moved onto a farm in this county with his parents when he was a babe

of nine months. About two years ago, he quit the farm and began working

on the railroad. A few weeks ago, while working on the ballast, he

caught cold which settled on his bowels causing inflammation. After he

had somewhat recovered, he commenced lathing on his mother's home and

accidently swallowed a shingle nail. He suffered intense pain and the

family was told by the attending physician, Dr. J.W. Walles, that

nothing could be done, as an operation could not be performed for

appendicitis, as inflammation had already set in. After five days of

intense pain and suffering, he passed from this earth to a brighter

existence above.

The funeral services were conducted by Elder Henry Stebbins of Lamoni in

the L.D.S. Church, of which he was a member. He was laid to rest in the

Davis City Cemetery, August 25. MR. PRUYN was a young man much liked by

his associates and was very industrious. We extend our sympathy to the

bereaved family.
