Decatur County Journal
July 20, l899
THOMPSON PRICE was born in Union County, Ohio, September l4, l840, and
died at his home in Creston, Iowa, July 4, l899, aged 58 years, 9 months
and 29 days. He was married to MARY E. MUSTAIN, November l9, l86l,
shortly after he enlisted for the civil war. He served four years in
Co. G, 82nd, Ohio Vol. and was in several hard fought battles. He lived
for a while in Ringgold County, then spent fourteen years in Decatur
County and finally moved with his family to Creston. He leaves a wife,
six girls and two boys to mourn his departure. ALICE, NELLIE, LETHA and
the little boy DELLA are in the home family. MRS. L.J. COLE and MRS.
MAGGIE SMITH live near Lamoni. MRS. ALVA T. PRICE lives in Van Wert and
MRS. J.M. HOLLINGSHEAD resides near the same town.
Bro. PRICE had just reason to be proud of his family and it is the hope
of the writer that they may all live faithful Christians and that they
may be reunited on the other side. Bro. PRICE began his living for
Christ in l860 in the M.E. Church, but just before his death he accepted
as far as he was able the faith of the Christian Church, the writer
having taken his confession in the presence of his children and four
officers of the church.
He said a few minutes before death that all was light before him. The
funeral services were conducted by the writer in the Christian Church at
Van Wert in the presence of a large and appreciative audience. The body
was then taken in charge by the G.A.R. Post and laid to rest in the Van
Wert Cemetery with G.A.R. ceremonies. May the God of all Grace sustain
the bereaved in their sore trial and help them to be comforted by the
precious promises of His word is the earnest prayer of the writer.
Creston, Iowa, July l5, l899.
