HARRISON TYLER PRENTISS, eldest son of GEN. B.M. PRENTISS, died at his
home in Bethany, Mo., on Wednesday of last week. "TIP" as he was
universally known, was born in Lewis County, Mo., November l9, l840.
He leaves two married daughters, MRS. KESLER, of Quincy, Ill., and MRS.
HARRIS, of Omaha, Neb.
Deceased entered the army in April, l86l, as a member of the Tenth
Illinois infantry but was shortly afterwards transferred to the Fiftieth
infantry as a member of the band and finally to the eighty-fourth
infantry. He participated in the battles of Fort Donellson, Shiloh,
Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge and many other engagements. He was
considered one of the best drummers in the western army and after the
war closed, traveled extensively, giving exhibitions of his skill. For
the past dozen years he was practically helpless, as a result of a
stroke of paralysis.
