died at his home in Leon, Iowa, November l4, l907, at the age of 63
years, 4 months and 2 days. In l855 he came with his parents to Iowa
and had been a resident of the state from that time. For about eighteen
years his home was in Leon, where he had formed a large acquaintance.
On January 27, l880, he was united in marriage to MISS LAURA ISABEL

mother, have preceded him to the spirit world. MR. POWELL was a loyal
soldier in the great Civil War. He enlisted on October 23, l86l, in Co.
G, l4th Iowa Volunteers, and gave to his country four years of devoted
service.
In his early life he was a Christian, the son of the Rev. JOSEPH POWELL,
a Methodist Preacher. Since the very sad death of his son, HARRY, his
health has steadily declined. He suffered much till the pain racked
body found relief in death. There survive him three sisters, two of
whom were present at the funeral; MRS. MCGEE, of Wyoming, and MRS.
GALLEY, of Des Moines, besides his son, FRANK, the only living child, to
whom there is especially extended the heartfelt sympathy of the entire
community.
The funeral was held from the residence in east Leon, Friday, at 2 p.m.,
conducted by Rev. J.L. Boyd, Pastor of the Methodist Church, and was
largely attended. The burial was in Leon Cemetery, and was in charge of
the G.A.R. Post, of which the deceased had been a member.
