JOHN PIPER, the subject of this sketch, was born Oct. ll, l833, in
Columbiana County, Ohio, and died at his home in Eden Township, Dec. 5,
l906, aged 73 years, l month and 22 days. He had been in poor health
for some time, but his death was sudden and peaceful, due to
complications of old age. JOHN PIPER was united in marriage to MARY E.
WARD, on June 5, l855, who still survives him. To this union twelve
children were born, four of whom died in infancy. The living are
EMMETT, JACOB, CHARLES, LOUELLA, DORA, ZORA, JOHN and HARVEY, all of
whom were present. He enlisted in Company H. l40th Ohio Volunteers, on
March l0, l864, and received a certificate of thanks and an honorable
discharge in Sept., l864.
He, with his family, moved to Iowa the same year where he bought a farm
in Eden Township, where they have since resided. He was a kind
indulgent husband and father, a good and respected citizen and neighbor.
Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday, Dec. 5th, under
the auspices of the G.A.R. Post, interment being in the Leon Cemetery.
