CLARENCE FREEDOM PIERCE, son of GILREATH and ELIZA ANN PIERCE, was born
near Van Wert, October 25, l86l. His mother died April l4, l894. The
greater part of his life was spent in the immediate vicinity of the
place of his birth. He was joined in marriage to MISS MINNIE M. SUITS,
October l6, l890. She departed this life, August 26, l898, leaving
three children, HORACE, JAMES and ELSIE. Deceased was a great sufferer
from asthma, on account of which he moved four years ago, to Oklahoma
and settled at Cleo, where he continued to reside until his death which
occurred quite suddenly May 8, l905.
During the winter of l890-9l, he united with the Christian Church at Van
Wert, where he still held his membership during life. He was again
joined in marriage to MRS. MCCLINTIC (sic) March 29, l905. His remains
were brought to Van Wert for burial, accompanied by his sister and her
husband, MR. and MRS. LEE WATKINS.
Funeral services were conducted according to the ritual and under the
auspices of the Modern Woodmen of America, of which order deceased was a
member in good standing. It is understood that deceased carried an
insurance policy of $2,000 which will be used for the benefit of the
family. The funeral was attended by a large company of old neighbors
and friends. The writer was well acquainted with deceased. He was a
good boy and an honorable man. The bereaved father and friends have the
sympathy of the entire community.
