A.A. PATTERSON was born July l5, l82l, in the state of Vermont and died
at the home of J.F. PARKER near Davis City, Dec. 2, l905, at the age of
84 years, 4 months and l7 days. MR. PATTERSON, when quite young, moved
with his parents to Canada and resided there some few years. With his
parents he then moved to Jackson County, Ohio, October 26, l845. He
married MISS MADALINE HALE and to this union were born six children, two
of whom died in infancy.
MRS. MADELINE PATTERSON died Aug. l9, l857, leaving to his care the four
children. They are ANSEL PATTERSON, of Davis City; MRS. B.F. MCDANIEL,
of Davis City; MRS. J.G. FLORA, of Davis City and C. WILLIAM PATTERSON,
of (can't read.)
On May (can't read.) A.A. PATTERSON married MRS. MARY A. JACKSON; to
this union were born three children, one having died in infancy. The
survivors are C.D. PATTERSON, of Oklahoma; and MRS. J.F. PARKER, of
Davis City.
MRS. MARY A. PATTERSON died March 4, l902. A.A. PATTERSON moved to
Decatur County in the spring of l865 and bought the James Potter farm in
New Buda Township where he resided a quarter of a century. He united
with the M.E. Church when quite young, but afterwards joined the
missionary Baptist Church. After coming to Iowa he united with the U.B.
Church, there being no Baptist Church near. The Missionary Baptist
Church seemed to be his preference.
He enlisted in the service in l864, in Co. F, l44th, Ohio Infantry and
was mustered out at the close of the war. Those of the immediate
relatives surviving are five children, one step-daughter, five brothers,
one sister and a host of grandchildren. He had reached his four score
years and more; had his troubles and joys and leaves behind much that
will tell for good as the years come and go. The funeral services were
conducted at the M.E. Church, Dec. 5, l905 by Rev. G.E. Mitchell, of
Weldon, assisted by Rev. A.C. Heckathorn. Interment in the Davis City
Cemetery by the G.A.R. Post.
