Decatur County Journal

July 20, l899

PAMELIA PATTERSON, whose maiden name was DUKE, was born in Pennsylvania,

May l5, l8l3. She was united to JOHN PATTERSON by marriage in Ohio,

November l8, l836 and moved to Decatur County, Iowa, in l850. The

husband died in Leon about ten years ago and some five years ago "AUNTY"

PATTERSON, as she was familiarly called, went to live with an old

friend, MRS. MATILDA HARDING, in Elkhorn, Neb., where she died July l5,

aged 86 years and 2 months.

Her remains were brought to Leon where funeral services were held by the

writer, after which the remains were borne to the cemetery and placed

beside those of her husband, a large company of friends following in

token of the high esteem in which she was held. She was converted at an

early age and joined the M.E. Church remaining a faithful member until

death. She and husband were charter members of the Leon M.E. Church

more than forty years ago.

Her life was exemplary--a worthy model. She was highly esteemed by all

who knew her. A dear lover of flowers and everything pure and

beautiful, but she has gone to join the blessed throng on the other

bright shore.

Servant of God, well done,

Thy glorious warfare's past.

The battle's fought, the victory won,

And thou art crowned at last.

May we follow her as she followed Christ. S. SAMSON.
