Decatur County Journal

Was born at Salem, N.Y., in July, l83l. Most of his early years were

spent at Cambridge, N.Y. After his marriage to MARY HARKNESS in l85l,

they moved to Kansas and shared in the exciting scenes which marked its

territorial history. Later the family moved to Ohio where MR. PARRISH

responded to the call of his country.

MR. PARRISH was reared as a Christian and early professed faith in

Christ, uniting with the U.P. Church. He was selected and ordained to

the eldership in that church. He was a sincere Christian and bore his

bodily affliction and disability with remarkable patience and

resignation; he was granted the full normal limit of human life and

stood waiting and ready for the Master's call to go up higher; that call

came Saturday morning, February l7th.

MR. PARRISH was possessed of more than ordinary intellectual gifts and

was a writer of much force and ability. Several years ago he

contributed articles to the city papers and furnished the JOURNAL with

editorial matter and sketches of the civil war.

Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon at 2

o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.D. Gurley. Among relatives in attendance

were MRS. NANNIE MOORE, of Kansas City, Kansas; MRS. R.A. HARKNESS, of

Fairfield; MR. and MRS. C.W. HOFFMAN and MR. and MRS. H.J. VOGT, of

Leon.
