Subject: OBITUARY - ETTA GERTRUDE MCLAUGHLIN.

Decatur County Journal

January 3, l908

ETTA GERTRUDE MCLAUGHLIN, daughter of MR. and MRS. JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, of

Decatur, was born August 30, l866, near Decatur, and died at her home

Friday, December 27, l907, after a lingering illness of many months. The

funeral service was held from the Christian Church in Decatur, Sunday,

December 29, at ll o'clock, conducted by Elder J.S. Coffin, of Leon.

Elder Coffin took his text from Luke l2:l5. "And he said unto them, Take

heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness; for a man's life

consisteth not of the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

After the discourse the Eastern Star, of which deceased was a loyal

member, gave their ritualistic service, at the conclusion of which the

casket was beautifully decorated with cut flowers, emblematic of the

order. Although the day was very unfavorable, a large audience attended

the service.

At about the age of l5, ETTA united with the Christian Church, of which

she was a faithful member until her death. She endeared herself to all

who knew her by her kindness and few can be found whose life is as pure

and spotless as hers.

She leaves father and mother, one sister and two brothers, besides a

host of sorrowing friends to mourn her departure. But while these

worship the Father in tears, this loved one is worshipping at the throne

of God where all tears are wiped away. Her life was large--not in days,

but in deeds.

After the services were concluded at the church, the remains were laid

to rest in the Woodmansee Cemetery.
