Date: Monday, June 18, 2001 2:53 PM
Decatur County Journal
March 30, l899
MATTIE MCINTOSH was born August l5, l873, in Mercer County, Mo., and
died at the parental home in Davis City, Iowa, March 27, l899, at 7:30
p.m. aged 25 years, 8 months, l2 days.
Her sickness was of short duration, there having been no indication of
any serious illness until Wednesday, March 29. The greater part of her
life has been spent in this county, she with her parents, having moved
from Mercer County, Mo., in l882 to this county, where she has ever
since resided and by her cheerful disposition and consistent life has
gained the respect and affection of a large circle of friends. Sister
MATTIE was a very useful member of the Epworth League and was faithful
in attendance upon all its services and in the discharge of all duties
imposed upon her. She was converted in the meeting held by the M.E.
Church one year ago and was a probationer in good standing in the
church, ever ready to take a stand upon the Lord's side. In her decease
the Church and League recognize the loss of a consistent and faithful
member, while the family mourn the loss of a loving child and sister.
The father, mother, five sisters and two brothers survive her.
Funeral services were conducted at the Union Church, Tuesday, March 28,
and the remains laid to rest in the Davis City Cemetery. A beautiful
floral tribute in the form of a Maltese Cross, which is the emblem of
the Epworth League, was furnished by the League, showing the high esteem
in which the deceased was held.
E.C. NEWLAND.
