Decatur County Journal

June ll, l903

LILLIE ALICE THROCKMORTIN was born in Clarke County, Iowa, October 9,

l863, and died at her home in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa,

May 23, l903, being 39 years, 7 months and l4 days old. The deceased

came with her parents to Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa, in

l870, and was married to ELIAS MCDOWELL, October 8, l879. To this union

were born seven children, of which five are living.

Her remains were laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Burrell May

25, l903. The funeral services were conducted by Uncle Ben Ellars at

the grave.

There is no death. The sun goes down to

rise upon some fairer shore;

And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown they

shine forever more.

There is no death. The dust we tread shall

change beneath the summer showers;

The golden grain of mellow fruit or rainbow

tinted flowers.

There is no death. The leaves may fall, the

flowers may fade and pass away.

The only waft through wintery hours the

coming of the May.

There is no death. An angel forth walks o'er

the earth with silent tread;

He bears our best loved friends away and

then we call them dead.

W.M.C.
