ELISHA MCDOWELL was born in Gibson County, Ind., Feb. l9, l829, and died

in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa, January l3, l904, lacking but

a few days of having attained to the advanced age of 75 years. He was

married twice, the first time to DEHLA TAYLOR, on March 29, l849, by

whom there were born to him 3 sons and 2 daughters. His second marriage

was to DORCAS ELIZABETH UPTON, August 23, l874, who gave birth to five

sons and two daughters. Of his twelve children, six are dead and six

are living, all of whom were present at the funeral.

Having moved to the State of Illinois when the war of the rebellion

began, he nobly responded to his country's call by enlisting July 25,

l86l, in Co. C. 40th Ill. Infantry and rendered faithful service until

honorably discharged, June l8, l865.

Bro. MCDOWELL joined the Christian Church when a young man and died in

the faith. He was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and

of the independent order of Odd Fellows. The funeral was preached in

the home and he was buried by the lodge of which he was a member.
