Subject: SUICIDE OF IRVING MCBEE.

Date: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 3:37 PM

Decatur County Journal

May 2, l90l

Last Thursday morning the citizens of our village were shocked to learn

that MR. IRVING MCBEE, living on the Wm. Warren farm four miles

southeast of town, had attempted suicide by cutting his throat with a

razor. At midnight he left the house to see a sick horse, saying that

if it was all right he would return and retire for the night. His wife

soon fell asleep. Shen she awakened she missed him and arose and went

to the barn to see what was the matter. She found MR. MCBEE lying on

the ground or first floor with a gash in his throat about three inches

long and clear through the top of the voice box into the floor of the

mouth.

Dr. Mitchell was hastily summoned and stitched the wound up, but the

inner stitch tearing loose it became necessary to do a more thorough

operation. So on Saturday morning Dr. Mitchell, assisted by Drs.

Doolittle and Lyons of Garden Grove, closed the wound thoroughly. To do

this it became necessary to introduce what is known as a tracheotomy

tube lower down in the wind pipe to obviate the danger of choking to

death on the blood flowing from the wound. A trained nurse was secured

for him and everything is being done to same him.

The outlook tonight is quite dark, as it is very likely that he will not

live, the danger being from heart failure, due to what is known as

aspiration pneumonia.

LATER:--MR. MCBEE died early Monday evening.
