Decatur County Journal
January 30, l902
I.L. MARSHALL was born near Plattsburg, Clinton County, New York, on
the
west shore of Lake Champlain, May l4, l822, and departed this life
at
his home in Decatur, Iowa, January 22, l902.
He was married to MISS LOUISA JONES, July 4, l846. Of this union,
fifteen children were born, eight of whom have gone before their father
to the invisible world. MR. MARSHALL was converted in l863 and united
with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which he remained active until
advanced age seemed to say to him, "Let younger hands and hearts bear
the responsibility of the church." In November, l866, MR. MARSHALL
came
to Decatur County, Iowa, in which county he has lived until called
up
higher.
His funeral took place at the M.E. Church in Decatur, Friday afternoon
at l o'clock, January 24. The sermon was preached by Rev. I.N. Woodard,
pastor of the M.E. Church of Leon, assisted by Rev. R. Benton of
Decatur. Text for the sermon was Psalm 23:4. The remains were laid
to
rest in the Decatur Cemetery to await the trumpet call in the
resurrection.
Thus, the earthly journey of one of Decatur's honored citizens passes
to
that land whose citizen never grow weary and winter winds and storms
are
never known.
W.E.H.
