Decatur County Journal

July 9, l903

CARRIE, daughter of M.M. and M.E. MARSHALL, was born Feb. 23, l880, in

Nodaway County, Mo., and died at her home near Mitchell, South Dakota,

June 24, l903, aged 23 years, 4 months and l day. The subject of this

sketch was converted and joined the M.E. Church in September l893, and

lived a Christian life ever since. She was a patient sufferer l0

months. She has been in delicate health for several years. She was

cheerful and ever ready to sacrifice her own pleasure and enjoyment for

others. She was a loyal daughter, a loving sister and will be greatly

missed in the home. Those who knew her best, loved her most.

As the end drew near she often spoke of death, but always without fear.

She saw her Savior waiting beside the river to receive her. She said it

"would be all well with her then." Her mother preceded her to the

better land, Oct. 22, l889. She leaves a father, three brothers, three

sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death. The

funeral services were conducted by the Rev. T.H. Youngman, of the M.E.

Church, at her home two miles northeast of Mitchell, South Dakota, and

her mortal remains were laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery.

We have laid her to rest among the jewels of His,

Folded close in death's icy embrace.

We have press'd the last kiss, we have dropp'd

the last tear,

On the dead and beautiful face.

Oh, soft be her slumber--the young and the fair,

Whose life-sands go gently have run;

Though the night-dews now cling to her bright,

flowing hair.

There's a morn for our beautiful one.

Fare you well for a while, faded star of your home,

Sweetly rest from all sorrow and pain;

Till the Prince of the angels in triumph shall come,

And restore your lost glory again.
