The city was shocked last Thursday evening when the news came that MRS. M. MAYER had died at her home in north Leon. She had been a sufferer for some time and had visited several health resorts, the best medical skill summoned and loving hands did all they could for her, but of no avail, and death came at last to relieve her of her suffering.
She was born in Germany in l857, and was married at Quincy, Illinois, to MIKE MAYER in l873. They came to this city in l880, MR. MAYER engaging in the clothing business.
MRS. MAYER was one of Leon's most highly respected ladies, having not a known enemy, loved and respected by all who knew her, a faithful wife and loving mother. She leaves a husband, son and daughter to mourn the loss of a wife and mother. Her remains were taken to Chicago Satyurday evening, a large crowd of sympathizing friends accompanying the remains to the depot.
The funeral services were held at Chicago, Sunday morning at l0:00 a.m., conducted by Dr. Jacobson and the remains laid to rest in the Mt. Moriarty Cemetery.
The heartbroken husband and children have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
