Asleep in Jesus.
Again the Death Angel has visited this community and called from our midst the beautiful and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Merriam.
Edna was born in Iowa, November 22, 1898; departed this life at the home of her parents near Newtonia, Mos., December 16, 1909, aged 11 years and 21 days.
She had been sick for about three weeks, yet her sickness was not considered dangerous, and after asking her mother for a drink, without a struggle the little spirit took its flight and she quietly fell asleep in Jesus. Her death comes as a great blow to her parents and friends. Edna was a kind and obedient child.
Never did she look so innocent, never so beautiful, as she lay against the soft linings of her white casket.
Edna was a faithful attendant at Sunday School, and was always singing at work or play. Although she will never sing again on the earth, but thank God she can sing with the blood-washed in heaven. Hers is the first death in this family. She leaves to mourn their loss, - father, mother, and two brothers, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Rev. Manville Weems spoke comforting words to the bereaved at the home Friday, December 17. Interment in Odd Fellows cemetery at Newtonia. Friends and loved ones are comforted with the assurance that they will soon meet her in the home of all of God's dear saints.
