JAS. MCCLARAN was born April 5, l827 in Wayne Co., Ohio. He moved to Indiana with his parents when a small boy, residing on a farm. He moved from Indiana to Mercer Co., Missouri in l857 and lived there until the fall of l860, when he moved to Decatur Co., Iowa where he spent the remainder of his life, dying Oct. l4, l896 of Bright's Disease.

He was married Nov. 9, l860 to GRISSELLA CLARK and to the union were born ten children, seven of whom are living. After his marriage he located on a farm near Spring Valley, Ia., where he lived until the spring of l884, when he moved on his farm two miles west of Davis City.

Having to leave the farm on account of ill health, he moved into our city about a year and a half ago.

For ten years he has suffered with poor health and when came the final call, it found him ready and willing to go. He was widely and favorably known in this region, and was one of the solid men of the county. His family are respected by all, and have the sincere sympathy of the community.
