Obituary for Minerva Jane Landes:Mrs. H. J. Landes

"Minerva Jane Rilea, daughter of J. R. and Sarah Rilea was born August 5, 1851 in Brown county, Ohio. In 1853, she came to Clarke county, Iowa. She was one of the early pioneers of that county.

She was married to Henry J. Landes on March 4, 1868. To this union were born three children, Laura A. Roberts, Leon, Iowa; Frank H. Landes, Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and Sam R. Landes, Casper, Wyoming. In 1889 the family moved to Leon, Iowa, where she has lived until the time of her death.

She was converted in early life and was a member of the Methodist church to which organization she gave her allegiance until the time of her death.

She was a member of the daughters of American Revolution and the P.E.O. Society.

Mrs. Landes died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 20, 1931, at the home of her son Frank in Mt. Ayr, after a lingering illness of several months, aged 80 years, 1 month and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her husband who died December 1, 1910. She leaves to mourn her loss beside her children, one sister, Mrs. Sella (Margaret Celestine (RILEA) Lent, of Afton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with sermon by the pastor, Rev. Howard P. Young. The music was by a quartet composed by Mrs. R. B. Hawkins, Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher, Dr. J. W. Powell and Wright Hurst. There were many beautiful floral offerings, and a goodly attendance of friends and relatives - many from outside the city. Burial was at the Leon Cemetery."

DEATH OF MRS. MARY LANDES

Mrs. Mary LANDES of Leon died at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Dr. F. H. LANDES of Mt. Ayr. Mrs. Landes had been critically ill for several months and three weeks ago was brought to the home of her son that she might receive his care and attention. She is survived by two sons, F. H. Landes of Mt. Ayr and Samuel Landes of Casper, Wyoming and one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Roberts of Leon who has also been helping care for her mother.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Leon this Thursday (afternoon) at 2:30 and interment made at the Leon Cemetery.
