In the death of JOHN BRIGGS KELLOGG his family is bereaved of a loving, devoted member, and the community of an intelligent, industrious, upright young man.
He was born in Leon, Decatur Co., Iowa, July 28, l879, removed thence with his father's family of which he was the youngest child, in the spring of l880, to Rosita, Colorado and thence in June, l889, to Provo, Utah, where he died on June l7, l90l.
Well developed physically and apparently strong, he worked in the mines near Provo at an early age. In the spring of l899, he had a severe attack of pneumonia and since that time his health has been a subject of concern to the family. The memories of the last three months are a precious treasure. He was so considerate, so loving and patient. His illness did not take an alarming turn until June 11, when inflammation of the stomach and bowels and nervous shock, perhaps the effect of mineral poisons to which he had been exposed. There was a better hope than that of more earthly existence to cheer the dying man and sustain those left behind.
He spoke precious words to those at his bedside and of brothers who through failure in means of communication reached home only for the funeral. "Shall we gather at the river", was sung beside his grave.
