Pearl (DALE) JOHNSTON was born March 8, 1889, in Grand River, Iowa, and passed away after a long illness April 19, 1979 in the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

She married Herbert T. JOHNSTON in the Osceola Methodist Church, December 2, 1908. Two sons, Raymond and Rupert, were born to the couple. The family moved from Grand River to Mount Ayr in 1918 where they lived for the next 16 years.

Pearl was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and a member of the Methodist Church. She spent the last years of her life in Des Moines, and the Leisure Manor, Osceola.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents, John and Hattie DALE of Leon; son, Raymond of Mount Ayr; brothers, Rollie DALE and Henry DALE, and a sister Ada (DALE) GOODMAN.

Living relatives are Rupert of Mount Ayr; grandsons, Herb and wife Mildred of Des Moines, Ron and wife Bonnie of Decorah; granddaughter, Mrs. Lye FARIS of Mount and grandson Steve JOHNSON of Des Moines; great-grandchildren are Evan and Rita JOHNSTON of Osage, Iowa; Al JOHNSTON of Decorah, Iowa; Jan and Eric JOHNSTON of Des Moines; Debbie, DeAnna, and DiAnna FARIS of Mount Ayr; sister, Gladys (Dale) ELLIOTT of Elizabeth, Colo.; sister-in-law Mrs. Rollie DALE of Garden Grove, Iowa; Daughter-in-law Mrs. Raymond JOHNSTON of Mount Ayr; and many relatives and friends.

Services were held April 22 from Rhoades-Wilson Funeral home with Rev. Lynn POTTER officiating. Music was furnished by Edna JONES and Mike GREEN. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. Casketbearers were Herb JOHNSTON, Ronald JOHNSTON, Wilber WAGENKNECHT, Lyle FARIS, John DENHEART and Steve JOHNSTON.
