Obituary ~ Opal L. (Guthrie) Johnson

Opal (Guthrie) Johnson of Lamoni passed away on December 15, 2008 in the ICC Unit at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Opal was born on January 12th of 1929 in St. Louis, MO to George and Ina (Giesler) Guthrie. She grew up in the central Iowa area and graduated from High School in Searsboro, IA, later moving to Newton where she lived several years. In Newton, she met and married the love of her life, Les Johnson on July 28, 1972. Opal and Les later moved to Galesburg IL and then to Cedar Rapids, IA before retiring in 1988, moving to Lamoni and spending twenty happy years.

Opal is survived by her husband Les, a daughter Sharon (Rod) O'Neal of Marshalltown and her two children, Shannon of Alpharetta, GA, Shay (Tonya) of Davenport, IA, two other grandchildren, Tiffany and Tyler Lantz and their mother, Cindy Green of Marion, IA, great-grandchildren Zachary and Ryan Davitt of Alpharetta GA, Ayden and Alysha O'Neal of Davenport, her sisters Faye (Dick) Fuqua of Lamoni, Bette (Ron) Lufkin Morrison CO, brother-in-laws Ray McCreery of Ottumwa, Larry Butt of Hampton, special friends Karmen Smith of Lamoni, Madelain Davidson of Ottumwa, many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss Opal's shining personality and caring nature.

In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were sons Jeff Johnson and Tony Lantz, her daughter Tawnya Lantz, brothers Robert Guthrie and George Guthrie Jr., sisters Dottie McCormick, Bernie McCreery, Tisha Butt and Mille Sainden.

Opal's wishes were to be cremated. The family will hold memorial services at a later date.

Brooks Funeral Care of Clive, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
