Obituary ~ Frank Merrill Johnson
March 09, 1907 ~ September 06, 1992
Frank Merrill JOHNSON, son of Elmer Burton and Katherine Barbara (SEIGEL) JOHNSON, was born March 9, 1907, in Clarke County. He died Sept. 6, 1992, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at age 85.
Mr. JOHNSON grew up and attended school in Clarke County. He farmed with his father southwest of Osceola. He entered the United States Army in April 1942 and was a rifleman serving in the Aleutian Islands and Italy. He was awarded three bronze stars and a good conduct medal and received an honorable discharge in October, 1945.
After returning home from the service, Mr. JOHNSON continued his farming operation and married Ivene FOLAND on Jan. 5, 1951, in Indianola. The couple farmed before retiring and moving to Osceola in September 1974. Mr. JOHNSON was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church until his health failed. He was also an honorary member of the church board.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Roy.
Mr. JOHNSON is survived by his wife, Ivene JOHNSON of Osceola; five sisters-in-law, Lillian JOHNSON of Bakers City, Ore., Ava BOWLSBY of Osceola, Ruth TUCKER of Peoria, Ill., Ica INGRAHAM and her husband, George, of Sacramento, Calif.; and Dorotha FOLAND of Osceola; two nieces, Gayle STANTON and her husband, Robert, of Bakers City, Ore., and Pat McWHITER and her husband, Michael; four nephews, Lendell FOLAND and his wife, Fran, Dwayne FOLAND and his wife, Kathy, Keith BOWLSBY and his wife, Dorothy, and Terry TUCKER and his wife, Sue; nine great-nieces and three great-great-nieces, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
Services for Mr. JOHNSON were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Osceola with the Rev. Cass YOUNG officiating. Organist, Pennie GONSETH and vocalists, Linda YOUNG and Joyce NEAL, performed the hymns Beyond the Sunset and Meet Me There. Casket bearers were Richard GRAVES, Gerald GARNER, Dave GEDDES, Rick HART, Clark GEDDES and John GEDDES. Honor bearers were Harley COOPER and David COOPER. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola. Military rites were presented by David Pence Post No. 69 of Osceola. Arrangements were by Kale Funeral Home.
