JIMMERSON, Gary Lloyd, 63, of Grand River, Iowa, died March 17, 2006. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon March 21 with Pastors Rick Hawkins and Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.


Gary Lloyd Jimmerson, 63, died peacefully at home on Friday morning, March 17, 2006 surrounded by his family. It was the end of a nine-year struggle with colon cancer. He was born August 29, 1942 in Grand River, Iowa to Lloyd Harland and Freda Grace [Jones] Jimmerson.

He was baptized September 20, 1959 at the Grand River Baptist Church. Gary lived most of his life in Grand River. He graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1960. He loved and was a good basketball and baseball player.

On June 18, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Hewlett at the Grand River United Methodist Church. Three children were born to this union, Grant Lloyd, Galen Lee, and Shelly Ann.

Gary was a member of the Farm Bureau. During that time he served as president and a member of the board. He also bought and sold cattle for BIC for many years. Gary worked various jobs throughout his life, from carpenter to ranch hand. Gary helped establish the Grand River Rodeo Company. Through all of the jobs, he was always a farmer. When he wasn't busy on the farm, he enjoyed being with his family. Gary enjoyed being a 4-H leader. He was happy to help and proudly watched his children and grandchildren show their animals. All of his children won showmanship with their hogs. Gary loved and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. He enjoyed the deer and pheasant hunts that he and his boys, grandchildren, and friends had each year. He also enjoyed watching westerns.

Gary was preceded in death by his father; his in-laws: Lee and Cleo Hewlett; brother-in-law Francis Hewlett; and grandparents: Henry and Bessie [Chipp] Jimmerson and George and Hattie [Carrier] Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Jimmerson of Grand River; children: Grant Jimmerson and wife Jenny of Adel, Iowa; Galen Jimmerson and wife Patti of Grand River; and Shelly Wookey and husband Darin of Murray; six grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Cody and Kaitlyn Jimmerson; Byron an Jewel Jimmerson, Justin, Alisha, and Joshua Summers; and Kayla and Brycen Wookey; mother Freda Hixon of Grand River; brothers Ronald and Patty Jimmerson of Osceola, Danny and Joan Jimmerson of Des Moines, and Melvis and Marsha Jimmerson of Van Meter; sister Eula and Duane Dolecheck of Creston; aunt Vera Blades of Mt. Ayr; Carol's family; and other relatives and friends.
