Robert "Bob" JEANES was born on a farm near Maloy, Iowa, on March 8, 1916, and died at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 12, 1987, at the age of 71. He was the son of James Edgar and Mary Etta (BYE) JEANES.
In his early years he lived with his parents in rural Ringgold County.
On March 27, 1937, he was united in marriage to Doris Byrdie WILEY at Mount Ayr, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Gary, Ann, Donna, Jack and Kenneth "Casey."
Farming was his major interest and he and Doris farmed in Ringgold, Grundy and Decatur Counties for 40 years. In 1947, Robert was named Master Swine Producer of Iowa. For many years, he served on the board of directors of Farmers Co-op Grain and Seed in lamoni. He was also assistant leader for the Bloomington Rustlers Boys 4-H Club.
Robert and Doris moved into Lamoni in 1981 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversay in March of 1987.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Lamoni, Iowa; children, Gary and wife Helen of Eagleville, Mo.; Jack of West Des Moines, Iowa; Kenneth "Casey" and wife Maurita of Lamoni, Iowa; Robert Ann MATTESON and husband Merlin of Independence, Iowa; and Donna SMITH and husband David of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Douglas and wife Laura JEANES of Lamoni; Denise JEANES, Kansas City, Kansas; Sherri and Brian SMITH, West Des Moines; Travis and Amber JEANES, Lamoni; and Steven and Susan MATTESON, Independence. Also surviving are four sisters: Merle GREELEY of New Market, Iowa, Margaret MATTHEWS of Huxley, Iowa, Louise (Mrs. Alva) JONES of Clearfield, Iowa, and Evelyn (Mrs. Merrill) REYNOLDS of North Hollywood, California; two sisters-in-law, Alta JEANES of Redding, Iowa and Carol JEANES of Waverly, Iowa; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services under the direction of the Slade & Duerr Funeral Home of Lamoni, Iowa, were held at the Lamoni United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 15, 1987, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Fred AGTARAP and Morris BOSWELL officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Lamoni, Iowa.
