Obituary ~ Junior Melvin Jackson
March 05, 1921 ~ October 27, 2015

Junior Melvin Jackson, age 84, of Grand River, Iowa, the son of William Melvin and Josie Mae (Story) Jackson, was born March 5, 1931, at Leon, Iowa. He died at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni, Iowa on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.

Junior grew up and attended school in Leon and Decatur, Iowa. He worked as a hired hand farming. On April 5, 1957, Junior was united in marriage to Darlene Ellen Duff. They were blessed with five children, Earl, Junior, Ellen, Ronal, and Kathi. Junior became a heavy equipment operator and was also a talented mechanic. He helped build Sun Valley Lake at Ellston, Iowa. Junior also worked as a logger and in a sawmill during the time the family lived in Colorado. He cut a tree that was to be sent to the White House in Washington D.C., but when it fell, it was too damaged to use. Junior was not afraid of hard work; he worked hard clear up until he retired in 2002. Then he and Darlene moved to Grand River.

In his free time, Junior enjoyed fishing and hunting. He attended God's Holy Spirit People's Church in Grand River.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Kenneth Jackson and wife Shirley; sisters, Eliza Jackson and Thelma Cox; and nephew, Charles "Chuck" Eaton.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Jackson of Grand River, Iowa; children, Earl Jackson of Creston, Iowa, Junior "J.C." Jackson and wife Evelyn of Grand River, Ellen Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ron Jackson and wife Diana of Grand River, and Kathi Sickels and husband Andrew of Kellerton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015, with Gary Majavec officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
