DEATH NOTICE:

IVINS, Max Leander, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa, died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon August 31 with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Max Leander Ivins, age 91 of Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Arthur and Carrie [Heston] Ivins, was born July 15, 1915 at Garden Grove, Iowa. He died at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, August 26, 2006.

On September 3, 1940 Max married Bernice Evelyn Kost at Corydon, Iowa. Two sons blessed this union, Norman and Jerry. The couple farmed in Decatur County south of Woodland, Iowa from 1940 until 1947 when they moved to Des Moines. Max started driving truck. He retired from Mid-America Lines.

Max enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing. He also was a member of the Teamsters#147.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers; Glen, Heston, Ben, Ralph, and Clint Ivins; three sisters: Betty Ivins, Nellie Myers, and an infant.

Survivors include his wife Bernice Ivins of Des Moines; sons: Norman and Julene Ivins of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jerry and Donna Ivins of Des Moines; three grandchildren: Wendee Ann Younts of Springfield, Missouri, Jeremiah Grant Ivins of Colorado Springs, and Carrie Ivins of Norwalk, IA; five great grandchildren; brother, Dewey Ivins of Agency, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
