Died at her home in west Leon, after a painful illness caused by a

derangement of the stomach, Feb. 27, l906, MRS. MARIAH J. JENREE. Her

age at the time of death was 7l years, 8 months and 24 days.

MARIAH JANE PERRY was born in Kentucky, April 3, l834. Her father moved

west to Illinois and here she continued to live with her parents until

she was united in marriage to JOHN E. DAVIS, which occurred Sept. ll,

l85l. The husband and wife came to Clarke Co., Iowa in l855, settling

on a farm near Leslie. They were the parents of fifteen children, eight

passed to the land of spirits before the mother, while seven are living

and were present at the funeral of their mother, except MRS. M.Z.

ROBERTS, of California and BENJAMINE H. DAVIS, of Pierce, Neb.

Sister DAVIS was a Christian woman of positive convictions, believing

that there were Christians in all the different denominations, yet she

could only find a church home with those whom she agreed in faith and

practice. Her daily life was a shining light that shineth more and more

into perfect day. Her husband died very suddenly July 7, l896. She

again united in marriage to G.W. JENREE, of Leon, Iowa, in September,

l898, who is left with her children and a large circle of friends to

mourn her absence from their midst.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist Church at Lacelle by the

writer and was largely attended especially by the old friends who knew

her so well in the past years of her life. The funeral text ws Rev. l3

and l4. She now rests from toil and labor while her life and works will

follow her. Her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband to

await the call of the resurrection trumpet at the last day when the dead

shall be raised in Christ incorruptible.

"Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep

From which none ever wake to weep,

A calm--an undisturbed repose

From which none ever wakes to weep,

May the kind Shepherd comfort the bereaved."

I wish to return my most heartfelt thanks to my friends and neighbors

for their kindness during my wife's illness and death. May God bless

you all and for a reward receive eternal life at the right hand of God.
