JOHN JENNINGS was born Sept. 3rd, l8l4, in Sussex County, England, and died July 5, l900, in Smith County, Kas., being 85 years, l0 months and 2 days old. He came to America with his parents when but 4 years old, and settled in Indiana where he grew to manhood. At the age of 2l he was married to SAMANTHA ROBERTS. To this union were born l0 children, of which five are still living.

The deceased was of a family of 11 children, of which but two remain, one girl in Illinois, and JASPER JENNINGS, living in Woodland Township, Decatur Co., Ia. Deceased united with the Christian Church soon after his marriage and lived a consistent Christian until death.

The writer was acquainted with "Uncle JOHNNIE" as he was familiarly known, for nearly 30 years, met him a great deal in church work and many happy hours with him were spent. Many are the friends about Woodland that will mourn the loss of a true friend.

The deceased came to Iowa in l854 and settled on a farm in this county. At the time of death, he was on a visit to his son's in Kansas, AL JENNINGS, who accompanied the remains to Lineville where the hearse was procured and many friends followed to the Shields Cemetery in Woodland Township, where services were conducted by the writer.
