"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." -- l Cor. l5:2.
Angels are near me, fail not to hear me,
And soothe the trouble of my heart.
Yes spirits from high hover o'er me,
And comfort sure they bring.
The bright stars of Heaven may be shaded,
But 'tis by an angel's wing.
EMILY ELIZABETH BENEFIEL was born in Perrysville, Indiana, June 22,
l85l, and departed this life at the home of her daughter MRS. A.J.
BIDDLE, of St. Louis, Mo., October 25, l905, aged 54 years, 4 months and
3 days. The subject of this sketch came to Iowa with her parents in
l869 and was united in marriage to HENRY HAUENSTEIN March 27, l879.
To this union were born nine children and their names and dates of birth
are as follows:
MARY BELLE, August 3, l87l.
CHARLES WILKINSON, January l4, l874.
JOHN SAMUEL, July 28, l876.
EVA MALISSA, November 24, l879.
ALTA LONELLA, February 26, l88l.
LOTTIE CELESTA, July 2l, l882.
MORRIS SAXTON, July l5, l886.
FREDERICK OLEN, September l3, l888.
LAWRENCE CLARENCE, January l9, l892.
BELLE and CHARLES reside in St. Louis. JOHN in North Dakota and the
other children in Grand River. The deceased is survived by her husband
four brothers and two sisters and a host of friends.
Some time ago she went to St. Louis in hopes of regaining her health
through a surgical operation, but all that medical skill and loving
hands could do proved of no avail. She passed away in the triumph of a
Savior's love, leaning on His mighty arm through the valley and shadow
of death. Short services were held at the home of her daughter, MRS.
ANDREW BIDDLE, after which the body was placed on the train and taken
home for interment.
The funeral was held in Grand River, the home of the family since l898.
Words of encouragement and comfort were spoken by Rev. W.H. Hamilton, of
York, Neb., after which the mortal clay was laid away in its narrow home
in the Young Cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
The deceased has gained the reward of a well spent life. She was
converted at the age of l9 and united with the Baptist Church at Elk.
Nine years later she professed sanctification and united with the U.B.
Church at Elk Chapel. She lived in perfect hope and trust and died in
the triumph of a living faith. At her death, as in life, she admonished
friends and loved ones to believe on Him who doeth all things well.
